Kicking back in the sunshine and enjoying a drink with friends is classic summer bliss. And this easy beertail is just the recipe to put on repeat all season long. Whether you like it with or without a salted rim, the blend of tangy lime and orange juice, crisp Mexican lager and sweet agave syrup is refreshing and super food-friendly. Try it with simple chips and guac, or your favourite grilled meat or seafood tacos.

Directions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker one-third of the way with ice cubes. Add lime juice, orange juice and agave syrup. Secure lid and shake vigorously until well blended and chilled, 10 to 15 seconds.
  2. Fill a small glass halfway with ice cubes. Strain juice mixture into glass. Top with lager and stir gently to combine. Garnish with lime wheel.

Tips

  • To make homemade simple syrup, in a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup (125 mL) granulated sugar and 1/2 cup (125 mL) water. Simmer over medium heat, stirring, until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool before using. Syrup can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 month.
  • To add a salt rim to your beer margarita, cut a slit crosswise through centre of a lime wedge and rub around rim of empty glass. Sprinkle about 1 tsp (5 mL) salt onto a small plate; invert glass and rotate moistened edge in salt to coat.
